What jcoffey.dev records about a visit, who else sees it, and how to say no to the statistics.
This site is articles and a few pages about me. When you visit, the web server keeps ordinary access logs: your IP address, the time, the page you asked for, the page that linked you here and your browser's user-agent string. That is the record any web server keeps in order to be run and defended, kept on the basis of legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) and for no longer than that needs. The site is served through Cloudflare, which also sees those details.
Visit statistics come from Google Analytics, and only if you say yes to the banner at the foot of the page. Until you do, nothing is sent to Google and no analytics cookie is set; say no, or change your mind later with Cookie settings in the footer, and its cookies are removed. Your answer is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and so is your choice of light or dark theme.
If you are in the UK or EU you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data held about you, and the right to complain to your supervisory authority. To ask about your data, reach me any of the ways on the contact page.
